Happy birthday to two brilliant ladies: [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph!

I hope your day is (and was and will be *g*) wonderful! *lots of hugs*
First off, the important stuff: Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] littlemimm!
(And my profuse apologies to all the people whose birthdays I have missed. :/ Damn you, LJ, bring back the birthday reminders.)

In other, more random news:

- I've totally forgot to post the fic I wrote for the 2010 [livejournal.com profile] sons_of_gondor Trick or Treat exchange. And related to that: go read the fic that [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz wrote for me: Incessant (Bean/Marton and tattoos, oh my) because it's made of win.

- Many, many thanks to the person or persons unknown for the [livejournal.com profile] mome_awards nominations! I'm very flattered. :)

- Oh gah, it's that time of the year again. I need to tackle the Yuletide Signup Form Of DOOM posthaste, but I can't even figure out what to offer, let alone what to ask for. Halp.

- I'm far too amused by the fact that the hotel I'll be staying at during a course-related thingy this week is called Hotel Arthur. I'm completely serious. That's the name. Hopefully the staircases are paradox-free, and hopefully the gravity stays normal.

- I know I've forgot to mention something, but I can't figure out what it is. Oh well, that's what EtAs are for.

Happy birthday to two lovely ladies, [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph!

Below the cut is a small and silly token of my affection. *g*

And Belated Happy Birthday to the many lovely people whose birthdays I've forgot due to being made of fail. *sigh*
Title: Venetian Heat
Author: [livejournal.com profile] empy
Fandom: LotR RPS
Pairing: Sean Bean/Viggo Mortensen
Rating: R
Disclaimer: I don't know these people, nor do I know their sexual preferences. This is a work of fiction and not true in the slightest.
Note: Set roughly during the Venice Biennale this year. [livejournal.com profile] nieninque121 pointed out that while Viggo officially wasn't in Venice then, he wasn't scheduled for any appearances either. *g* And didn't Sean look rather rumpled in most of the pictures?

A small token of my appreciation for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph on the occasion of their shared birthday. Many happy returns!

Thanks to all the people who sent cards and emails or posted birthday wishes. :) And thank you to the mystery person who bought me a virtual pint! (Who are you? And are you the same person who got me balloons last year? I want to know.)

Because my life is what it is, I worked today. It was an average day, thank heavens, so I wasn't too frazzled by the end of it.

My sister got me the most gorgeous mug: it's half angel, half demon and perfectly Good Omens. *g* I already had a (wholly) demonic mug from the same series, but I'd had my eye on this one as well. I tried to take a picture of it, but it didn't turn out well, so I nabbed one off the designer's website. This picture shows a mug with two ears, but mine is fused, so it's half white, half black, with one side of the single ear shaped as an angel's wing and the other side like that of a bat.

They're by a Finnish designer called Sami Rinne, in case you were interested.

Mum got me The Children of Húrin, yaye. Now I can finally catch up with the rest of fandom. The cover is gorgeous, and I just want to sit staring at it lovingly. Verily, Alan Lee wins at illustrations.

Now, if only that one fic would cooperate, everything would be dandy. (And if the last vestiges of this cold would disappear, I'd be even happier.)

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] tvillingar! Keskikokoista mammuttia suuremmat onnittelut. :)

Firstly: Happy belated birthday to two wonderful ladies: [livejournal.com profile] ribby and [livejournal.com profile] ashinae, and happy timely birthday to [livejournal.com profile] abby_normal and [livejournal.com profile] kmanderson!

Yesterday was spent celebrating [livejournal.com profile] tackerama's 30th birthday, and it was glorious fun. Delicious cake, good company and much laughter. We ([livejournal.com profile] tackerama, [livejournal.com profile] littlemimm, T's close friend K (the token male) and I) headed to the local Irish pub at ten-ish and left at two, even though we'd only intended to drop in for a pint or two. (Well, none of us had more than two pints, so at least we stuck to part of the idea. *g*) Drinks-wise, I went with Guinness, which is lovely, but even lovelier when combined with weird and cracky conversation and lewd and rather vocal commentary on other bar patrons. We also slashed random pretty people left and right and laughed at sad come-on attempts.

After leaving the pub, we decided to stop for pizza (which rarely tastes as good as when eaten while slightly drunk at three in the morning), which proved to be a good idea, since I was ravenous. I hadn't eaten properly since the morning, as I'd worked full shift before heading over to T's place.

All in all, it was a great day. :) I think I came home at a bit past three and promptly fell into bed, falling asleep almost before my head hit the pillow.
Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph!!*1 (And to my darling little sister as well, though she won't see this. She turned 21 and is now 'really legal' as a friend of mine put it.)

In other news: There are no other news of any worth, really. *g* I'm a bit tired at moment, due to having slightly overindulged in salmari shots*2 while barhopping with my sister and her friends last night, so everything seems to be going at a slightly slower speed than usual. (No headache, though, and I don't feel sick at all, just tired.) This is not a good thing, because I need to wrap presents, make the creole-ish ice cream I promised my sister I'd make for her, finish reading three novels so I can hand in a reader's journal on Monday, plus do a bit of modly match-making for a challenge.

*1I had salmari shots in your honour, like I'd promised [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon :)

*2Someone brought us a tray full of them, and I drank my share too fast. I also suspect the last vestiges of my cold played in, because I swear they didn't taste as much of alcohol as I remembered. Ack. Note to self: plz to not slam several shots fast. They go to your head. Also, plz not to listen to sister's boyfriend when he says "Oh come on, have that shot. Or are you too proper?". I also had a rather vile shot which might have been a "Fisu" (Finnish for 'fishie'), i.e. Koskenkorva vodka mixed with ground-up Fisherman's Friend lozenges. Hrr.

EtA: I know I'd forgotten something. The holiday card post is still open, so get yourselves over there if you want a card from Finland. :)

Important things first: Happiest of birthdays to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] azrhiaz! ♥ ♥ ♥

In other, less significant news: dear self, even if you manage to bike fairly well despite the broken toe and it doesn't hurt all that much, it's no excuse to bike to town and back (some 7-8 km). The toe will, without fail, feel all wonky for the rest of the day. Grr. I wish the damn thing would just heal already, because it's beginning to annoy me.
(I owe so many people comments and replies to comments, and I owe people emails as well. *hangs head*) I'm terrible with birthdays, so of course I forgot that it was [livejournal.com profile] pecos's birthday yesterday as well. Happy belated, dear!

The rest of this post is just a quick note: the grades for the thesis course were posted today, and I passed with a 4, the second highest grade. Yay. :) Now I just have to deal with a handful of other courses in the autumn and spring and the Hum. kand. degree should be in the bag. The new Finnish system is a bit odd when it comes to the degrees: though the English equivalent of the Hum. kand. degree is the B.A., it doesn't mean I have it yet, despite having written a B.A. thesis and having passed a maturity exam. Imagine my chagrin when I remembered that. Grr. The most ridiculous part of this is that I, among other things, still have to read 40 study weeks (the older unit of course credits; one sw=40 hours of work) of my minor, and my current minor -interpretation- doesn't even offer forty sw's worth of courses.

It's like I'm enrolled at the Unseen University. (It's not like I haven't suspected it before, though. The online grade system is as stable and logical as Hex, and I keep expecting "+++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++" when I request a transcript of my records. And yes, the degree reform and subsequent hassle of trying to explain you're still studying according to the old system occasionally has me wanting to run around shouting "Melon melon melon".)

There was something else I was supposed to mention, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was. *sigh*

There are balloons on my userinfo page! Which one of you is responsible? Come on, fess up so I can heap love on you. :)

Have celebrated my birthday in a very calm fashion, as I have work tomorrow. I visited my parents and spent the afternoon there, doing absolutely nothing useful and stuffing my face with strawberry cake.

[livejournal.com profile] littlemimm and [livejournal.com profile] tackerama had teamed up with my parents and sister, and they'd gotten me an 80e gift certificate to -- a local tattoo parlour. :D My family and friends are mad but lovely and I love them for it.

Now I just have to decide on a tattoo motif. I already have one LotR tattoo, so I think I'll go for something else this time. Granted, I could get something pierced instead, but I'm not all that keen on it. Ink for me, thanks. ;)

Oh, and another reason why I love my family: they decided to forgo the usual birthday flowers and got me a huge pot of fresh herbs instead. Flat leafed parsley, thyme and lemon balm, enough to last me into the autumn, provided I remember to water it.

And last but certainly not least: extra squishy thanks to [livejournal.com profile] annmarwalk for the lovely feedback and to [livejournal.com profile] littlemimm for writing me fic. *cuddles*

Almost belatedly: Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] tvillingar!

Card (which makes sense to about six other people) under the cut )

(And I've a sinking feeling I've missed other birthdays. Hrm.)
Important things first: Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] smillasnowflake! May there be glitter, owlets and barns set aflame by ugly dresses. ;)

I had new (electric) radiators installed today (the old ones were far too small, and as a result, the temperature inside dropped to 14.5°C at the lowest o_O), and was pleasantly surprised twice. First, both of the installers were rather cute and around my age, and they were polite and pleasant. Always a winning combo, that one. I also got to have two young men on their hands and knees in my living room. *leer* Pity it was business... Erm, anyway.

The second pleasant surprise was the text message I got about an hour after they left*. The head electrician, wanted to know if the radiators were working, and he included a little smiley and the note "It was nice to work with a nice client for once". It made me grin, really. He sent another message later, asking if I was on MSN. I said I was, and he poked me via Messenger not five minutes later. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I'm not quite sure of what to make of what seems to be an attempt to flirt. So far, it's just cute if somewhat bewildering.

The weird bit? Apparently I used to play with him on the beach when we were small (he's only two weeks younger than me), as my father knows his father. I have no memory of this whatsoever. Eh.

Nothing new on the weather front. It's still cold as fuck here, thanks to the icy wind sweeping in from Siberia. (And that's not hyperbole, it's fact.) Wind chill included, the temperature is about -30°C in the daytime, a few degrees colder at night. As soon as you step outside and take a breath, your nostril hairs freeze, and you lose sensation in your face if you don't wear a scarf wrapped around your head. (In addition to the wooly hat/hood, of course. You can't go out without covering your head, not if you want to avoid a splitting headache.)

Random vaguely weather-related whinge: I read the "From Our Correspondent" column on the BBC website, and winced when the Moscow correspondent said it was -30°C outside and that the children were throwing snowballs in the back yard. Erm, wtf? Throwing lumps of ice, maybe, but certainly not snowballs. Anyone who's played outside in snow knows that you can't squeeze frost-snow into balls. The snow has to be slightly melted, so a temperature of just above zero degrees centigrade is optimum. -30? Dream on. The snowballs would collapse before you could throw them, unless you squeezed them really, really hard, and even then, they'd just go 'poof' and disintegrate when they hit. This is not the point of snowballs. They're supposed to be hard enough to be felt, because half the point of a snowfight is to hear the opponent yell "ow". ;) (The other half is to tackle them into a snowdrift and shove snow inside their collar.)

*I was, however, slightly weirded out by the fact that he took the time to look up my number.

Very Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph! You share your birthday with someone very special to me: my sister. :)

Big sparkly congratulations under the cut )

Right, off to uni now. I hope I don't run into the interpretation lecturer, as I managed to oversleep rather badly and miss the lecture this morning. Eek. I also have to finish my Russian assignment and try to find my seminar opponent before our meeting with the supervisor.
Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] annmarwalk!

I hope your day is filled with glitter and beautiful things. :)
